First Aid for Legal Aid

FA4LA (First Aid for Legal Aid) is an annual event that raises funds and awareness for the Dalhousie Legal Aid Clinic. The Dal Legal Aid Clinic is a great cause that needs community support, and of course, money. Provincial legal aid services are severely under-funded, and the Dal Clinic is in an even greater bind, because it provides services to the community that are NOT INCLUDED in the provincial legal aid scheme, like poverty and family law support. The funds raised through FA4LA go directly to poverty specific legal initiatives. So how do you fit in? Keep your eyes and ears open, FA4LA usually takes place sometime in September. On that date, if you're a law student, grab a couple friends, a donation bucket, signs and stickers (which will be provided to you by the FA4LA organizers) and head out on the town to collect donations for the Dal Legal Aid Clinic. We'll have stations set up at local grocery stores and other locations, or you can walk the streets of downtown - feel free to bring drums/guitars/your dancing shoes with you! If you're not a student, keep your eyes peeled for people beating the streets and looking for cash for a good cause. For more information, feel free to send us an email at salsa@dal.ca!

Legal Observing

SALSA sometimes gets requests from groups to do legal observing at protests; to watch, take notes and be a witness for protesters. For more information on legal observing, check out the National Lawyer's Guild Legal Observer Training Manual (file size: 1.2 MB).

The SALSA Disorientation Guide

Every year SALSA puts out a guide for law students coming to Dalhousie with articles by members and friends of SALSA. We'll have a pdf of the Guide online soon!
