Janelle Warren:
Advanced Hip Hop , Intermediate Hip Hop

Hellooooo everyone! I'm Janelle and I've been dancing pretty much since I could walk. Growing up I trained at Dancezone, and also took other ballet classes in Halifax. More recently I've done some training at the Broadway Dance Centre in New York City. I am very experienced in hip hop, contemporary, jazz, tap, lyrical, and ballet. I am a certified instructor through my associates B.A.T.D certification, and have also been trained in A.D.A.P.T syllabus. I've performed at competitions and shows throughout Eastern Canada and the United States. In addition to teaching at DalDance, I also teach and choreograph for PerformDal, a performance-based dance group for advanced dancers in contemporary and hip hop, as well as at local private dance schools. I can also be found dancing... pretty much anywhere and everywhere, and I'm looking forward to sharing my love of dance and music with you!

Chantal Dube:
Beginner Jazz , Beginner HipHop

Dance has been a part of my life ever since I was 2 years old. I’ve mostly trained in the styles of ballet, tap and jazz, but since high school I’ve also taken classes in hip-hop, contemporary, lyrical, modern, production and I’ve done a very small amount of salsa. I trained at Maritime Dance Academy as well as Dance Zone before coming to Dal. I started teaching dance in junior high and have taught for Maritime Dance Academy and now currently teach for HRM Rec as well as Trena’s Studio of Dance and I am very excited to be adding DalDance to my list. I love teaching dance and I hope that my passion passes on to those who I teach. I can’t wait to meet all of you throughout the year and am super pumped to get these classes started!

Allie Nugent:
Advanced Tap, Intermediate Jazz, Advanced Contemporary & Advanced Jazz

Hey Dancers! My name is Allie Nugent and I am an experienced dancer in jazz, tap, ballet, and hiphop. I trained at Greta Leeming Studio of Dance in Ottawa, Ontario, for 17 years and danced competitively for 10 years. I have successfully completed the advanced levels in both A.D.A.P.T and R.A.D examinations. I have also come runner up for dancer of the year, American Dance Awards, in my last two years as a competitive dancer. This is my third year involved with Daldance and my second year as Member at Large (Show coordinator). I am teaching Advanced Jazz, Advanced Contemporary, Advanced Tap, and Intermediate Jazz. I am so excited to share my passion for dance with all of you!

Emma Reid:
Highland

This is my fourth year at Dal, and I'm happy to be back to teach the highland class for the fourth time. I started highland dancing before I was old enough to go to school, and it was a huge part of my life growing up. In my younger years I danced competitively, which took me to various Highland Games and competitions across Canada and the United States. Though my competitive years are over, I still perform regularly and promote highland dancing in any way I can. I currently perform with the Halifax branch of the RCMP Pipes, Drums and Dancers, and also with the Dartmouth-based contemporary highland troupe Celtic Sole. This year I hope to continue to share my love of highland with you all, and ensure you are always equipped with some Scottish dance moves for every Nova Scotian kitchen party you encounter!

Kayla Short:
Bellydance

I completed my undergrad at Dalhousie as an English Major, and I am currently finishing up my last year of an Education Degree (Secondary) as MSVU. I was on council as Member at Large and organized DalDance’s 10th Anniversary Year End Show. My only dance training prior to DalDance was a year of Ballet, Jazz and Lyrical where I competed and represented D&R (Cape Breton). I have dappled in almost all the classes with DalDance (Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, and Conditioning). I began Belly Dancing at the intermediate level about 3 or 4 years ago and I quickly moved up to the advanced level and I remained there for a few years until taking over teaching for the lovely veteran teacher Neely. I love performing Belly Dancing and I wish there was a bigger venue for it here in the city. I am a very active person and I like to propel others into living healthier lifestyles. I’ve been taking dance classes with the DalDance Society for over 5 years now. I also enjoy hot yoga, running, and swimming, so I am fully aware of the benefits of being an active person. Exercise helps make you feel better both mentally and physically. Dancing is a healthy way to escape the stresses of everyday life. Dancing promotes mindfulness as it allows people to actually live in the moment, as it is extremely difficult to think about anything else. When dancing you have to really concentrate on the steps, and the way your body is moving, so you don’t think about what’s on your to do list for tomorrow or what you have to after class.

Sarah Copeland:
Conditioning & Beginner Ballet

Hey Dancers! My name is Sarah Copeland and have had the joy of practicing dance for the past 18 years. Originally from Toronto, Ontario, I started my training in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, HipHop, Modern, Musical Theatre, Conditioning, and Tap. I have competed in competitions around Ontario as well as a few in the Halifax area, and have choreographed for young students as well as High School fashion shows. I started as a Teachers' Assistant at the age of 15 at my home dance studio, and continued teaching my own classes as well as fitness classes throughout the summer while at camp. I have taught a wide range of styles, levels and age groups and have loved every teaching opportunity I have had. I have been dancing with the DalDance Society for the past 4 years and am now in my 3rd year teaching as well. Currently I am teaching Beginner Ballet and Conditioning, but the last two years I also taught the Intermediate HipHop class. I am so excited to start my final year with DalDance and can't wait to share the stage with all of you beautiful dancers!

Phil Roy:
Salsa

Two words. Salsa Addiction. I only started dancing when I was 19, and it wasn’t long before I was hooked! A day without salsa is just not a complete day. I started dancing at San Tropez Latin Studio in Montreal, and I am currently dancing/performing with the Halifax Salsaros. You can also find me dancing in random public places, such as the Waterfront, Farmers Market, and the Commons. It is my second semester dancing with Daldance and I can’t wait to share my passion with all of you!

Nick White:
Beginner Modern

I began dancing at the age of 17 and quickly became addicted. In my home town of Saint John, New Brunswick, I trained in Contemporary, Jazz, Modern, and HipHop. I came to Dal in my second year University and, with the help of Edgett Studio and Daldance, I was able to dip into Waltz, Quickstep, Tango, Samba, Jive, Rumba, Chacha, and Tap! I am currently your Member at Large (Website coordinator) so yell at me if there are any issues with the website. This will be my first year teaching Beginner Modern so I am super excited because it's going to be tons of fun! WOOT!

Ffeon Elliot:
Intermediate Contemporary

Hey Dancers! My name is Ffeon and I have been dancing for fourteen years, ten of which were competitive. I have taught and danced in many disciplines such as, jazz, contemporary, ballet, tap, and musical theatre. At Daldance I am very excited to be teaching Intermediate Contemporary. I can't wait to help strengthen and improve my students current skills, and of course have fun! I'm so excited to start dancing with you all soon!

Tory Nevens:
Musical Theatre

I began dance class when I was four years old, but it was not until the fifth grade that I actually took dance seriously. In the fifth grade I started to dance with the Maine State Ballet, and since then I have trained in ballet, jazz, tap and modern. I have performed in many classic ballets including Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, as well as some more fun pieces like the Can-Can and Balanchine’s Western Round-Up. I look forward to class this year and hope you all come to love dance as much as I do.

Tiffany McDonald:
Advanced Modern

Hey Everyone! So, I’m Tiff, but you can call me MacDaddy if it floats your boat. I’m from Kingston, Jamaica and this year will be my 3rd with Daldance. This year I’m on your council as your secretary! So Basically, I’m the one who reads & answers your e-mails. MUAHAHA. I’m in my final year of a BSc in Biology with a minor in Film Studies. I started dancing when I was three and haven’t stopped since. I studied modern dance (Lester Horton Technique) at the Tony Wilson School of Modern Dance. I won awards such as Most Outstanding, Most Improved, Most Disciplined, and Tony Wilson School of Modern Dance and Company Dance Theatre Trophy of Honour. I’ve also dabbled in ballet, jazz, hiphop & musical theatre. I’ll be teaching Advanced Modern with my lovely friend Hilary Ilkay. I hope you’ll enjoy the class! Can’t wait to meet you all!

Hilary Ilkay:
Advanced Modern

After abandoning ballet at the tender age of 3 (oh, the regret!), I started dancing in high school and quickly fell in love with every style I tried: modern, jazz, contemporary, ballet, swing, hip hop, you name it. Since then, I have spent a lot of time training, taking classes and workshops in every style imaginable in both Toronto and Halifax. I have been taking Modern for almost 5 years, and it remains very near and dear to my heart. Its combination of technique and free, earthy movement will have you hooked in no time. Along with Tiffany, I'm so excited to be teaching the advanced class this year. To quote a film poster I recently saw in the UK: "Dance, Dance, otherwise we are lost."

Taylor Cudney:
Advanced Ballet & Intermediate Ballet

Giselle Yeung:
Intermediate Ballet
