Our Mandate
The intent of this society is to provide gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, transsexual, two-spirited, gender variant, intersexed, queer individuals, and the people who support them with education, advocacy and support.
EDUCATION: DalOUT is dedicated to educating members of Dalhousie University's faculty and student body, as well as the Halifax community regarding queer issues. This is done through workshops, a resource centre, special events, speaking engagements, and by the society's active participation in other community events.
ADVOCACY: DalOUT provides the queer community at Dalhousie with constitutional recognition and an active voice. It will serve as a representative of the community's issues and views. It is also a political force lobbying for the needs and rights of students, staff, faculty, community members and other users of DalOUT.
SUPPORT: DalOUT provides support in various ways. We offer a peer support service. In addition, the resource centre has listings for other queer/queer-positive services for additional support or referrals. We also maintain a safe and accessible space for queer students and allies to congregate and feel comfortable.
We also aspire to have a fun and exciting time by organizing a number of social and educational events, including pub nights at the Grad House, a gender-free formal, drag queen bingos, sex toy workshops, polyamoury workshops, LGBTQ legal seminar, safe sex workshops with ACNS, movie nights, PFLAG presentations, National Coming Out Day advocacy, Valentine's Day social, Positive Space Campaign presentation, among others.
